“San Fernando — the heartbeat of the Southern Waterfront.”

San Fernando stands as a vibrant symbol within The Revitalisation Blueprint, redefining how communities live, connect, and thrive. With a clear vision rooted in innovation and cultural renewal, the city is being reshaped into a dynamic urban and coastal experience that celebrates heritage while embracing the future.

At the heart of this transformation is Plaza San Carlos, a reimagined historical landmark that connects past and present. Once a bustling market square, it now emerges as an open-air cultural hub featuring restaurants, cafés, and artisan boutiques. Its design encourages walkability and social interaction, rekindling the city’s identity as a people-centered destination.

Adjacent to the plaza, the Waterfront Hotel, Conference Centre, and Amphitheatre form the city’s new international face. The 250-room hotel, complete with marina berths and rooftop dining, is complemented by a 10 000-seat convention facility and a 250-person amphitheatre—together creating an ecosystem for tourism, business, and culture to flourish along the coastline.

The Waterfront Convention Centre itself represents architectural ambition and versatility, housing six thematically designed ballrooms that can collectively host major global events. Its sweeping glass façades reflect both the Gulf of Paria and the city skyline—an emblem of transparency, collaboration, and growth.

Nearby, Health City South positions San Fernando as a regional hub for wellness and advanced medicine. This specialised medical district integrates hospitals, teaching facilities, and research centers, attracting both international partnerships and regional health tourism, while delivering world-class care to local communities.

TThe Waterfront Residences bring a touch of oceanfront luxury with more than 1 500 housing units overlooking a newly created mile-long beach and a four-acre public park. Designed for modern living, these residences blend elegance with sustainability, ensuring the waterfront remains inclusive and accessible for all.

A Multi-Modal Transport Hub links land and sea with seamless efficiency, connecting taxis, buses, and marine services. This integrated network reduces congestion, boosts economic flow, and supports the city’s vision of a connected, future-ready urban landscape.

Beyond infrastructure, San Fernando’s renewal focuses on people and place. The introduction of public green spaces, cultural amphitheatres, and open-air markets fosters community engagement while celebrating local craftsmanship and heritage. Every space is designed to invite participation, pride, and possibility.

With over 5 000 jobs projected during construction and countless more through ongoing operations, the economic ripple effect will touch every layer of society. From small businesses to skilled trades, the revitalisation empowers the people who define the city’s soul.

San Fernando’s rebirth is more than construction—it’s a cultural and civic renaissance. Blending innovation with identity, the city emerges as the Southern Beacon of Transformation—a living blueprint for sustainable growth, community connection, and the bright future of Trinidad and Tobago.
